If there is one thing you can be assured about with a trip to Phuket, it’s that you will be treated to some of the best sights you will ever see. The island and the surrounding vicinity are home to some of the most naturally beautiful sights on the planet. Stunning corals, sheer cliffs and clear azure waters may leave visitors wondering if what they are seeing is real as the natural beauty is quite unlike what you will find anywhere else.
The island of Phuket itself has many wondrous sights to please the eye and perhaps the most pleasing, and certainly among the most popular, is the Promthep Cape viewpoint. Located on the islands southernmost tip, the viewpoint allows unrestricted views of the sun setting which attracts holiday makers and locals alike. On clear days breath-taking sunset views of the sun dipping beneath the Andaman Sea allow for fantastic photographic opportunities, some inspiration for keen painters, or just a sight to keep in the memory.
Many of the crowds gather in the car park to watch the sunset. The lighthouse and museum allows for the best view there is and on a clear day you can even make out the distant Phi Phi islands. The lighthouse is free for anybody to enter, although donations to help with its upkeep are more than welcome. More intrepid visitors may prefer to venture down along the cape toward the ocean but this may be a trip only for the more able bodied people among us.
If you would like a bite to eat, the Promthep Cape Restaurant offers good food at great prices and of course, with a spectacular view. The cape is a popular spot among locals at night time not only for its stunning views, but also for the serene atmosphere and cooling winds blowing in from the ocean. Many people will enjoy spending all night long here under the stars and having a drink as an alternative to Phuket’s livelier night time options. Promthep Cape also has nearby stalls selling local arts and crafts for you to browse through once you are waiting for the spectacle of the sunset to begin. Also in the area you will find Wat Chalong, which is the most important of all the temples in Phuket.
Promthep Cape makes an ideal location for couples that are looking for some romance in an idyllic setting. It is also ideal for people that are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist centres such as Patong and head instead to somewhere more peaceful. You can choose to eat and drink from the local restaurants and food stalls, or instead you could bring your own picnic hamper with which you can find a quiet spot to take in the sights away from other people.
If you are visiting Phuket from afar you should do the best you can to take full advantage of what the island has to offer. A visit to Promthep Viewpoint will help to ensure that you take in some of the very best sights that the island has to offer.
