Phuket is close enough to Malaysia to make it a realistic destination from Malaysia on your holiday, and vice versa. If you would like to visit Phuket from Malaysia you have a number of options open to you.
From Langkawi to Phuket
Direct flights are unavailable between Langkawi and Phuket, although you could choose to travel from Langkawi to nearby Penang to get a flight. Alternatively, you could choose to travel partly by sea and partly by road by first catching a ferry to Thailand’s Satun, and travelling by bus from there. The entire journey over sea and land will take approximately 6-7 hours to complete making it the quickest and easiest way to get to here from Langkawi.
From Penang to Phuket
With direct flights from Penang to Phuket on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, many people would prefer to fly if possible. If you would rather not fly here then your best alternative would be to travel by road which is best done in one complete journey. Penang’s Georgetown will have no shortage of tour companies that will be able to book you a seat on a van that will take you door to door. You should expect the journey to take 10-12 hours, but fortunately you will have some incredible sights to enjoy along the way.
From Kuala Lumpur to Phuket
If you wish to travel from Kuala Lumpur by road you will first need to catch a train or bus to Hat Yai, from where you can then continue on to Phuket. The long distances travelled mean that taking a sleeper cabin will be highly advisable. The road distance for many is simply too long, making flights from Kuala Lumpur a popular option.
Ferries make a convenient and very affordable way to travel between Phuket and the mainland and smaller surrounding islands. Remember that some services will be discontinued during the low season, so check first to avoid disappointment.
